How Heat Pumps Work
Instead of creating heat via fossil fuel combustion or electricity, heat pumps move heat in or out of your home. In the winter, a heat pump will draw heat from the air outside and circulate it into your home. In the summer, heat pumps draw heat from the inside of your home and release it into the outdoors.
Because of this innovative technology, the Department of Energy reports that heat pumps can save you up to 65% off electricity costs for heating when compared to traditional furnaces and baseboard heaters. Pippin Brothers installs both ducted and ductless mini split heat pumps in homes throughout the Lawton, Fort Sill, and Duncan area.
Ducted heat pumps connect to your home’s central duct system and consist of an outdoor unit that circulates refrigerant and an indoor unit that delivers warm or cool air. When installing this type of heat pump, our team will also assess your home’s duct system to make sure modifications or replacement are needed to ensure optimal performance.
Many of our customers want greater indoor comfort without cumbersome ductwork and mechanical equipment inside the home. Mini splits are a great option in these cases, offering all of the benefits of ducted heat pumps without connecting to ductwork. The outdoor unit still circulates refrigerant—but instead of just one indoor unit, mini splits have air handlers placed in different zones of your home. There can be up to 8 air handlers per outdoor unit and each one has custom controls to help maximize home comfort.
Benefits of a Heat Pump Heating & Cooling System
Heat pumps are an all-electric alternative to standard heating and cooling systems and offer a wide range of benefits for homes in the Great Plains area.
Heat pumps can both heat and cool your home, which means they can be used through every season of the year—even in subzero temperatures!
Reduced Energy Costs
Without the need for oil or gas, heat pumps only require electricity and are some of the most energy efficient systems on the market, helping you save on your home’s monthly energy bills.
Lowered Carbon Footprint
Since heat pumps don’t require much energy to operate, you’ll save on costs and help to save the environment.
Improved Indoor Air Quality
Since heat pumps use electricity to condition your home and not gas or propane, they also eliminate your risk of carbon monoxide leaks and improve your indoor air quality.
